Building an online presence has become matters of life or death in this technological life. But how do you know which web development platform is right for your business? I ranked my top 5 favorite web development platforms, coupled with which businesses are most suitable for that platform. Disclaimer: This is my personal preference.

1. Wix

Coming in hot first on the list is Wix. If you’re not a web designer aficionado, then Wix is a God sent. It’s UX design is off the charts. Wix takes the headache out of web design and gives the power to the creator. If your business falls in the creative space then Wix should be your goto. With their abundance of site templates, you’re bound to find the perfect site that will showcase your creative talent.

2. Squarespace

For a while, there was a running debate: “who’s better, Squarespace or Wix?”. Analytically, Squarespace, and Wix come out equal in many aspects. If want to spend some time and have more freedom with personalization opt for Squarespace. Like Wix, Squarespace is great for creatives, advertising, and entertainment-focused businesses. 3. WordPress

If your business is in the realm of technology, news, or professional services, then WordPress is your best friend. Word press has claimed over 25% of the total website market share. Their no joke. However, unlike Wix, WordPress is less straight forward. If you have WordPress then you’re most likely going to have a web developer on call to some capacity. WordPress’s strength is its professional design. Check them out here

4. Shopify

Disclaimer: If your business does not involve e-commerce, this does not apply to you.

If you’re selling products or services online then don’t miss out on Shopify. Like Wix, Shopify has an excellent UX design and has a reputation for supporting its users. Additionally, as the goal of your startup is to scale, Shopify is there to help you scale with ease. If you have an e-commerce and haven’t checked out Shopify yet, click here

5. GoDaddy

Even though I’m ranking GoDaddy at the bottom of my list you shouldn’t overlook it. GoDaddy serves as the #1 domain register platform in the world. Unlike WordPress, GoDaddy includes lots of user-friendly add ons without any additional costs. Additionally, GoDaddy is a very affordable option. If you’re on a tight budget, I recommend taking a look at GoDaddy first regardless of your type of business. Check them out here.

Word of Advice

Do your research. Look for low prices. Taking on a website will add to your fixed overhead costs, and you can’t escape it. Ensure that the domain you choose is the domain you will want and enjoy to use. The website is also a huge aspect of growing your brand identity. Don’t rush through launching your site just for the sake of going live. Go live once your website is clean and reflects a strong brand.
